Travel Junkie – Asia

This Asia trip is the first big trip I have taken since being self employed, and it was such a great experience. From the food to the people I have nothing bad to say at all (and thank the lord that I did not get food poisoning … AGAIN!)

To begin, this seasons tickets to Asia were at such a great price especially when the weather there still felt like summer. I flew with HK airlines and it cost me $560 for a RT from YVR to HKG. The upside was that the ticket was cheap, however, the flight there and back didn’t have a TV screen nor did they have a USB port to charge your electronics. They provided iPads, but I guess I can’t complain if the tickets were so cheap.

Trip duration: 16 Days
Trip total cost: $2,500
Cities visited: 4
Favourite destinations: Ho Chi Minh + Hong Kong

Read below to see the highlights of each city I visited!

Hong Kong [Hong-Kong] – Eat. Shop. Eat. Eat again. Repeat!

This was my second time in Hong Kong and I loved every bit of it! I am so thankful to have my BFF Chels to show me around and it was a great hub to reconnect with friends from home and all over the world.

Fav things I did:
– Mong Kok Admiralty Mall (Cheap cheap shopping!! This is where you’re gonna wanna pull those bargaining skills out.)
– Iron Fairies in LKF
– Under Bridge Crab Restaurant (Super yummy after a night of drinking)
– Happy Valley Horse Race Track (Go on a Wednesday)
– Zerve (Coolest Beer Pong game you will ever play… THERE IS A REF!)

Things that I didn’t get to but I will for sure get to the next time I am in Hong Kong:
– Halfway Coffee
– Tong Po Dai Pai Dong
– Australian Milk Company

Accommodation: My friend Billy’s couch.

Ho Chi Minh [hoh-chee-min] – Uhhh food here is off the hook.
I think I had some of the best food in my life here. I loved HCM not only because of the food but because I got to spend the time in this city with my boyfriend and his friends.

Fav things I did:
– UBER Motorbike!!!!
This option isn’t in every city… so I gave it a try. It obviously looked dangerous af, but me and chels love living life on the edge! No joke tho it was SUPER FUN!!
– Eat at Banh Mi Huynh Hoa
BEST Banh Mi I have ever had in my entire life
– QUI
I love that in Asia when we buy a bottle you get to have it on the table in front of your face and you get to pour it yourself (In Vancouver you don’t get to do that… idk why). Also if you don’t finish your bottle you get to keep it there and come back another day to finish it!! Not to mention bottle service is only $400 there for a nice bottle of whiskey.

Phu Quoc [fǔ kúək] – A little island we called home for a few days.
Beach. Bungalow. Seafood. Massages. (That’s all I gotta say)

Accommodation: Arcadia Beach Resort

Chiang Mai [chyahng-mahy] – Views and culture were everything.
Reunited with friends here and just enjoyed the views and culture that Chiang Mai had to offer.

Fav things I did:
– Zip lining through the jungle!
Bring mosquito repellant… a lot of it!! Other than that it was super fun!
– Thai cooking class (Thai Orchid Cooking School)
I would highly recommend taking a cooking class, it was super fun and yummy too!
– All the night markets
I bought fake birkenstocks that were more comfy than the real ones for $12.
– A day at Anantara Chiang Mai!

Hands down the day at Anantara Chiang Mai was kinda a dream vacation come true. Both me and Chelsia got a signature Thai Spa treatment at their Spa and were delighted by the 8 course dining menu the Chef had prepared for us at their “1921” restaurant. The service was impeccable and the architecture of the resort itself was breathtaking. The thing I loved most about Anantara Chiang Mai was the 1921 Restaurant and the secret door they had that unlocked a secret room! Check out the photos below!

Accommodation: The StarHill Apartments
